downtown is something to be seen even if you’re not
in the market for lectures and homework. The campus
has a backdrop of the Franklin Mountains, verdant,
groomed landscaping and unique architectural design,
which has been taken from the monasteries in Bhutan,
in the Himalayas. Various art shows, lectures,
dinner theatre, plays and concerts are available to
students and non-students alike.
The
university has a student body of 15,000 – 85% of
whom are from El Paso or northern New Mexico. The
university offers opportunities to earn bachelor,
master and doctorate degrees.
UTEP
is active in community service events important to
the border region. These activities range from
archeological digs unearthing ancient Indian
dwellings to conferences and lectures on the border
economy.
