El Paso's
Services sector accounts for 22.8
percent of the area's employment and
totaled over 54,700 workers in June of
1999. From June of 1996 to June of 1997,
El Paso's service sector added 2,800
jobs and this growth is expected to
continue. A new development is El Paso's
attractiveness to back-office
industries. Recently, MCI created 1,500
new jobs in their Multilingual Call
Service Center (19 languages), and AT&T
Telemarketing expanded service center
operations into the El Paso area. This
AT&T expansion will bring 250 new
service related jobs and will retain
550.
Other
major players in the telemarketing arena
who have a substantial presence in El
Paso include: West Telemarketing,
Brylane, Echostar, National Processing
Company and Dial America.
The
hotel/motel service sector has also seen
positive growth with the openings of
Stay America, Comfort Inn Suites, Studio
Plus, Sleep Inn, Red Roof Inn and
Budgetel. Professional and support
services are also growing which provide
contract opportunities for the twin
plant industry along the U.S.-Mexico
border. These services include
distribution and warehousing,
engineering, marketing, consulting,
language training and translation. |
